Plateosaurus was a prosauropod. Prosauropods were not actually related to sauropods, although they looked similar.
Plateosaurus means 'flat lizard'. It had a thumb spike on both hands, and it had two uses: to pull down trees, and as a defence. Unlike Sauropods, Plateosaurus could stand on its hind legs to run and feed in the tree tops. It was balanced by its tail. While Plateosaurus mostly ate plants, it wouldn't have passed by a little meat, or some insects. Like Sauropods, Plateosaurus' main defence was size.
